It was ordered new by Gilles Bureau, whose father owned the only Chevrolet dealership in the town of Rouyn-Noranda, Canada. Mr. Gilles Bureau's goal was to drive from his hometown to Montreal as quickly as possible. Ordered with 18 factory options, this Tanker quite literally checks every box. Finished in Rally Red with a Black Leather interior, it features the L79 327/350-horsepower engine, Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission, G81 4.11 Positraction rear axle, J50 vacuum power brakes, N40 power steering, K66 transistorized ignition system, N14 side-mounted exhaust, A31 power windows, A01 Soft Ray tinted glass, A82 headrest seats, N36 telescopic steering column, N32 teakwood steering wheel, P48 aluminum fast take-off knock-off wheels, P92 whitewall tires, U69 AM/FM radio, and U74 hazard warning switch. Mr. Gilles Bureau explained in a handwritten letter to restorer Bruce Smith in the early 1990s that shortly after taking delivery of the Tanker, he took it to a performance shop and had the camshaft swapped for a higher-lift version and the carburetor rejetted for more performance. Included with the letter was a copy of a speeding ticket he received for traveling 150 KM/H in a 70 KM/H zone, and a photo of him with the Corvette on delivery day in front of his father's dealership. The Corvette would change hands over the years until ultimately ending up in the collection of renowned Tanker enthusiast K.D. James, who is well-known in Corvette circles for his passion for Big Tank Corvettes and his impressive collection. Eventually, the Tanker found its way into the garage of Corvette restorer Bob Gregory. When K.D. decided to sell the car, Bob immediately contacted Bruce Smith and told him, You have to buy this car. Bruce, a dedicated Corvette enthusiast, jumped at the opportunity and acquired the Tanker. Though the Corvette was in need of a full restoration, Bruce, his brother Scott, and Bob were up for the challenge. Together, they completed a comprehensive restoration. Bruce even managed to trace the ownership history all the way back to the original owner, with whom he corresponded. Once the restoration was complete, Bruce decided the Corvette deserved to be shown for the first time back in its home country of Canada at the 2002 Quebec NCRS Regional in July of that year. He would go on to exhibit the Tanker at numerous NCRS events, earning multiple Top Flight awards. After 28 years of ownership, Bruce passed the car on to a new caretaker his friend Joe Verrillo, a Corvette collector, restorer, and owner of Verrillo Motor Car Co. in Clifton Park, NY. Joe would take the Tanker back out for judging and earn an NCRS Top Flight Award, a Bloomington OEM Gold Award, and most recently, a MCACN Gold Spinner and Triple Diamond Award.

Finished in elegant Nassau Blue with a white leather interior, this car presents a striking and luxurious look. What makes this Tanker particularly unique is the Disc Brake Delete option, which replaced the newly standard disc brakes for 1965 with the drum brakes of the previous model year. This Tanker was also ordered with the following options: L75 327/300 HP engine M20 4-Speed Manual Transmission G81 3.36 Rear Axle C60 Four-Season Air Conditioning J50 Power Brakes A01 Tinted Glass N36 Teakwood Steering Wheel N36 Telescopic Steering Column N03 36-Gallon Fuel Tank N11 Off-Road Exhaust System P92 Cast Aluminum Knock-Off Wheels 7.75x15 Whitewall Tires U69 AM/FM Radio Z01 Convenience Package It is said that two types of people typically ordered the N03 36-gallon fuel tank: the first were those looking to take the car directly from the dealership floor to the racetrack to compete in endurance racing; the second were traveling businessmen and women who wanted to look stylish while covering long distances without frequent fuel stops. We believe this Tanker was ordered by the latter. With factory air conditioning, leather interior, teakwood steering wheel, power brakes, and power steering, this Corvette is one of the most elegantly optioned Tankers produced. This Corvette was once part of the K.D. James Collection. K.D. was a well-known Corvette collector with a particular interest in N03 Big Tank carshe would chase them down across the country. Eventually, the Corvette ended up in the garage of Bob Gregory, a renowned Corvette restorer who often completed restorations for top collectors. When K.D. expressed interest in selling the car in the early 2000s, Bob contacted his friend Bruce Smith, who already owned a 1966 Red L79 N14 N03 Tanker and had a strong interest in Big Tank Corvettes. Bruce purchased the car in 2004 and undertook a complete, comprehensive restoration, working alongside his brother Scott Smith, Bob Gregory, and Dick Ferrando of D&A Corvette. Dick, a highly experienced Corvette restorer and painter, refinished this Corvette in lacquera process that few modern painters can still execute to the level of excellence seen here. After completion, Bruce entered the Tanker into the national Corvette judging circuit, where it earned numerous awards. Eventually, Bruce sold the car to Joe Verrillo of Verrillo Motor Car Co. in Clifton Park, NY. Joe continued the legacy by entering the car into further judging events, earning the prestigious NCRS Top Flight Award, Bloomington OEM Gold, and most recently, a MCACN Gold Spinner and Triple Diamond Award.

Finished in Sebring Silver with a dark blue interior, it was equipped with 6.70x15 black sidewall tires, a U65 AM Signal Seek Radio, the N03 36-gallon fuel tank, 2-bar cast aluminum knock-off wheels, and the Z06 Special High-Performance Package. This package included metallic power brakes with a dual-reservoir master cylinder, heavy-duty stabilizers, heavy-duty shocks and springs, a Positraction rear axle, a 4-speed manual transmission, and a 360-horsepower fuel-injected engine. Only 63 Corvettes in the 1963 model year are believed to have been built with the N03 "Big Tank" option and the Z06 Special High-Performance Package. Dexter Chevrolet was a well-known high-performance Chevrolet dealership located in the heart of Detroit, Michigan. Known for the slogan The Big Dealer On The Big Road, it was also recognized as the only Chevrolet dealer located on 8 Mile Road. It is verified by the NCRS Shipping Data Report that this Corvette was delivered new to Dexter Chevrolet. It is also documented in the C2 Corvette Registry that this Z06 is believed to be a COPO car, ordered with 2-bar cast aluminum knock-off wheels. The Z06 Special High-Performance Package was a product of Chief Engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov. Along with the high-performance engine, the Z06 package added larger brakes with elephant ear cooling ducts, internal cooling fins, and metallic brake pads. Being that this Corvette was ordered just down the street from Zora?s home base in Detroit, it?s clear someone had inside information about this factory race car and placed their order with racing in mind. This Z06 eventually made its way to Florida, where its restoration began. A collector from Bakersfield, California, purchased the Corvette in under restoration condition, and it was completed to Concours condition under his ownership. Joe Verrillo of Verrillo Motor Car later purchased the fully restored car and entered it into the NCRS judging system, where it received a Top Flight Award at the 2022 Northeast Chapter Meet and a Regional Top Flight Award at the 2024 Northeast Regional Meet in Marlboro, Massachusetts. He also took the Z06 to the Bloomington Gold Show, where it earned a Bloomington Gold Award. Joe will go on to achieve a Gold Concours Award at MCACN and ultimately earn the coveted Triple Diamond Award.
